Happy International Women’s Day! It’s the 100th anniversary and it’s got my fellow feminist friends in a tizzy. We’re supposed to be celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future all around the world, but sometimes there feels like there’s not a lot to celebrate.

Ruth Armstrong, chair of the women’s committee for the Canadian Auto Workers Union Local 111, said she’d like to see tougher sentences for those convicted of assaulting bus drivers, female or male. According to the union, ninety female transit operators have been assaulted since 2006. One assault is already one too many for me. Do what you can to respect and protect your bus drivers, today and all year round.
