Volunteering:
Get involved with Lester’s Army and gain skills in publishing. Attend the bi-monthly recruit meetings to pitch ideas, debate issues and eat biscuits.
Internships:
A three month commitment at 35 hours per week. Get an insight to the workings of a magazine and great experience learning how the publication develops from ideas to print. Put your self out in the publishing world completing activities and assignments for the magazine and attend events for free.
“Interning into a workaholic! I have never done such a wide variety of tasks in such a short space of time. Such an inspirational bunch of people and probably the most fun job I’ll ever have.” – Alicia Wooding, 2011.
“A non-hierarchical working environment was a little bit to get used to. I’m a dinosaur when it comes to things like this. My mindset is still one that accepts the “old boy’s” way of running things. Every one answering to someone else and having a clear chain of command. In no way are you to overstep your boundaries or assume for a moment that anyone cares about your opinion. This is not the case with Lester’s Army. Even if the name has the word “army” in it. I liken it to a family of sorts. Everyone keeps well aware of other people’s feelings and takes into consideration a great number of touchy feely things when conversing and making decisions.” – Will Stearn, 2010
Maintaining a connection to our past is the best way to create a better future.
